Ivanhoe Electric and BHP Launch Exploration Alliance to Uncover U.S. Critical Mineral Deposits

Press Release

Ivanhoe Electric has officially signed a definitive Exploration Alliance Agreement with a subsidiary of BHP to accelerate the discovery of copper and other critical minerals across the United States. The alliance initially targets six areas of interest covering approximately 3,655 $km^2$ in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. As part of the agreement, BHP will provide an initial $15 million in funding over a three-year term to explore these high-potential regions for the metals required to power the global energy transition.

We at CGI are proud to support this initiative by providing our proprietary machine learning-based inversion software to the alliance. Our advanced algorithms will be used to process data from Ivanhoe Electric’s powerful Typhoon™ geophysical survey system, converting complex signals into high-resolution images of deep-seated anomalies. By integrating CGI’s inversion services with the Typhoon™ hardware, the alliance can effectively "see" through unmineralized cover to identify sulfide deposits at depths exceeding 1.5 km.

This collaboration underscores the critical role that CGI’s inversion capabilities play in de-risking exploration and uncovering the next generation of mineral wealth. We congratulate our parent company, Ivanhoe Electric, and their partner BHP on this landmark agreement. We look forward to seeing our technical contributions help drive successful outcomes for the Santa Cruz Copper Project, the Tintic Copper-Gold Project, and future discoveries within the alliance.
